I haven't read the link yet, but what would be the URL to the files so you can access them either via a URL or to put an image up in the [IMG] tags?

Or are you simply wanting to use it as an "external HD"?From reading the article, I believe it is the latter. If somebody wrote a suitable device driver so that Gmail storage looked like an external or network disk to Mac OS X, the same thing would work on a Mac. If.

A friend and I are now going, meeting there straight after work, but we might not get there until just gone 6, depending on how fast the tube is! Look forward to seeing you all there! Always wanted to go to a product launch and feel the hype! Now I'm in London I can!

Here's a quick question, does the family pack still only come with 1 disk or does it come with 5 separate ones for each license? (I have several macs in the house and it's cheaper to get the family pack, obviously!)

Checked my phone at about 3:06 this morning, when I hit the sleep/wake button the lockscreen clock said 2:06, but as soon as I unlocked the screen the clock adjusted to 3:06, hardly a problem for me, and Verizon iPhone by the way.

Can't believe aperture doesn't support more RAW types yet.

Until it supports more/all of the raw types, it will never be a real 'pro' application imho

Aperture only uses the RAW formats that OS X uses. When 1.4.8 comes out it will support more.

What you're describing isn't racism, so there's no issue. It's impossible for those who have been oppressed by the majority to be racist - they don't have the power.

At least, that's what I was taught by my fancy college education.

Seriously? This is seriously what college is teaching? Holy cow am I glad I bailed when I did...

So what about a group of hispanic men that jump a korean man simply for being korean? Both groups are minorities.

What about a poor white woman living in Inner City DC having "cracker ho" or something like that yelled at her by a group of black women?

Apple won't use 10.4.10, it doesn't look elegant.

Instead, they'll stop at 10.4.9 and any changes after that will be called a "Security Update".

I kinda think it looks balanced with the 10 on each side.

...Smurf Village is certainly an easy trap. You have to enter your password to download the "free" game, then your kids have 15 minutes to spend real money on in-app purchases...

in-app purchases can be turned off via parental controls/restrictions...have you tried this?

    A) You have to enter your password to download anything!! And after doing so, it is best to reboot your idevice after downloading new apps, this would sign you out automatically.

    B) If you don't do that, there is one simple thing you missed here...you had to enter your password to download the game, but once you've done that, you simply need to sign out before handing the device to the child.

    C) Don't tell me you can't hold on to your idevice while the app downloads so you can sign out..if your kid has that much control over you, you are not being the parent. Kids CAN wait, just because they fuss doesn't mean they can't. It is called discipline and/or learning to be patient...something that seems to be lost in this country.

... some of the games publishers are acting in a particularly scummy way and are exploiting this "loophole" to make money from people who are failing to monitor their kids properly...

Alright, if this is the case, then the problem is not with Apple, but the game publishers.
...AND the adult owners of the idevices.

I think this needs to be highlighted:Parents need to grow up and be just that....parents and not the kid's buddy, etc.

We do not need Government to step in here, Apple provides several ways for parents to control this:

I sure hope that Apple does a bang up job of updating Mail.App for Leopard. I like the GUI to Mail but have to admit that it causes me a lot of grief that I've never experienced before with other mail clients...

    My fingers are crossed.

I don't understand why T-Mobile is using 700/2100 instead of 2100 up and down. The iPhone and other handsets support 2100 but not 700.

yes this is the reason. try it yourself.

and yes. i updated FB on my phone. so i just deleted it, and then re-sync'd my phone with the older version of FB.
    You were spot on. Thanks.

Totally annoying. I use Infinifolders and I think it's going to make me redo all my folders. At least that's what it looked like in iTunes.

    Ugh.

I'm not buying a tablet until there is one that runs mac OS X (the modbook is too expensive) :D
    

I'm still a firm believer tablet computers need to come with the following to be considered "standard":
    1) Soliataire
    2) Minesweaper
    3) Disk Defrag
    4) A CD Burner

Other than that I do think Woz's comments were right on the money.

Once again, I was never talking about the audio out port that also has mic capabilities for iPhone headsets that there are very few of. I was talking about the line-in jack that is useless and does not support power for a typical headset.

    http://blogs.computerworld.com/mac_microphone_line_in_only_port_is_a_real_drag

It certainly isn't useless, it's designed so you can get high-quality stereo audio through it. You can't do that with a mic socket, the power in the socket for the mic can affect the sound quality, it causes a buzz. If you want high quality audio get a USB headset or a USB/FW microphone preamp. For the majority the iPhone headphones/mic or the built-in mic work just fine. Why do you need support for PC-style headsets?

    Sort of.

Lets separate reading and writing exFAT. If I can read it, I can pull stuff off of it. So OS X will require the ability to read exFAT in order to make it compatible with non apple devices that will be using this format. HOWEVER, it is not required that Apple choose to read exFAT. You could format with HFS+. Then any device that can read HFS+ could read and write to it.

If I can write to exFAT, then I can place data (even 4GB+ media files) on the card. Apple may create a driver that allows you to read exFAT but not write to it.

This matters if you are going to use the card to store media files (4 GB+), or are planning on using the card with non Apple devices. I could get a 128 GB SDXC card, format 100 GB in FAT32 for a user directory, and format 3 8GB swap spaces (one for OS X, one for Windows, and one for Unix). Then I'd have my user files and swap space with me wherever I go, and it would be cross platform compatible (everyone reads and writes FAT32). Yes, FAT32 does have a maximum partition size, this is why I used a 128 GB SDXC card as the example. And yes, I wouldn't have my media files (movies) on the card (I'd need one of the 2 TB cards to do this).

Since Pretec is selling an ExpressCard SDXC reader, this is what I plan to do with my triple boot MBP (see sig). I'll point my OS X user directory to the directory that will be on this card, I'll do the same for Win7, and BackTrack. Each OS will also have swap space on the card. This increases security too. If I have my SDXC card with me, someone using the laptop can't see my files at all. It also increases speed (maybe and a little) because I'm using a different storage device and bus to put my user files/swap space on.

Let's take a closer look at what we have here.
For references we have: http://www.sans.org/reading_room/whitepapers/forensics/reverse-engineering-microsoft-exfat-file-system_33274 and the blog rshullic.wordpress.com

First, the SDXC card is set to be exclusively exFAT. You may be able to format the card as FAT32, or HFS or NTFS as FAT32 can be formatted to 2TB although you can't use Microsoft utilities to do so. Microsoft will read a 2TB FAT32 file system and write to it, they just won't let you create anything over 32GB. If you want to use the SDXC card exclusively with the Mac, then you could format the card with almost any file system. I have formated a 256MB (yes MB, it is SD Version 1.00) SD card as exFAT. But put that card with exFAT into a camera, like the Panasonic Lumix which has SDXC support, and it says that the card is not formatted properly and won't let you use the card until you reformat it. A SD card is speced for FAT, a SDHC card is speced for FAT32 and a SDXC card is speced for exFAT, and some camera manufacturers enforce the proper file system. So, if you intend to use the sdxc in a camera or a phone or other consumer device, formatting it as anything other than exFAT may not be an option.

And Apple might need to license exFAT just to read it even if not to write. (might need, I don't really know as there are now forensics tols that read exfat but I don't think those guys are licensing it, maybe read only is ok and doesn't violate licensing agreements?)

The SDXC card actually begins at 48GB, which is the equivalent of a dual layer Blu-Ray disc. I have seen 48GB and 64GB so far, and the 64GB (at a low i/o speed) can be gotten at amazon for about $200. But the card are running in the $350-$600 range with speeds claimed to be 30MBs (that is mega-bytes per second) so it will be a while for the prices to come down and the speeds to increase near the SD 3.0 level of 104 MBs, let alone the SD 4.00 spec of 300 MBs.

i bet they had people there with MBA's from good schools running financial what if's and telling management to avoid digital because they will make less money due to not selling the film or anything other than the camera

They did not avoid digital at all, in fact they were an early entrant to digital. The problem was that they were used to having a lucrative near-monopoly in film, a fat side business in film processing and a nice low-end camera business built around proprietary "connvenience" film packaging. They were now facing aggressive consumer electronics companies who were used to relently feature upgrades and short model lifecycles. Moreover, they could not rely on their film dominance to keep competitors at a disadvantage. In other words, they had to change their business model completely-- from near monopoly to completely competitive-- in order to success in the new business. Only a fraction of companies manage to do this successfully.

Keep in mind, also, due to the increased competition and lack of a film component, that the opportunity for Kodak in digital was much smaller than their film and related businesses. It's very hard to manage a shrinking company, and even harder if you are also trying to reinvent yourself.

OI! APPLE LAWERS!!! YEAH YOU!!! Read some Mintzberg, or Mead, or (and I'd strongly advise this) Andrew Bailey. Basically, get those HBS grads out of your org and stop using crappy outdated Business School Methods. It was once the way to go. But what they don't consider are Gender and Cultures! You wanna piss me off: You loose my custom.

Sorry for the moan, but the litigation era was over in the 90's.

It's about Love Marks now, and your Lawers are hurting your brand!!! Fix it before it's too late!

Oh, calm down and read all the links. There's been no litigation. Apple was pretty damn polite in its one cease-and-desist. Under US law, if you don't defend your trademarks you lose them, and the links discussing their trademark applications indicate that Apple may already be in trouble on that score already.

P.S. I read Mintzberg in business school in 1981. "Gender and Cultures" is a non sequiter right out of a university course catalog. ROFL. YDKWTFYATA.

They did fix the RFC errors using Outlook/IMAP. I'm thankful for that. Still not great, but it's okay. We're upgrading to Exchange 2010 soon, so it's short term.

Still not blown away though. Given the choice, with Exchange 2010 in place, I'd prefer Mail/iCal/Address Book. Just seems less bulky, and more integrated. Oxymoron I know, since they're all separate. But from an OSX perspective, I think they're a better fit. Outlook 2011 looks forced. Too many colors, buttons, and crap. Less is sometimes more....

That's enough reason for me not to buy it. I have NEVER met anyone who is completely happy with the user experience of the office package.

Do you mean you have actually met people that are totally happy. Really dam your lucky I have never met people in all my life that did not bitch about everything...take your pick they hate something of it even their own kids.

From 1 party to anyone and everyone, your neighbor, elevator, cash register. Anyone with ability to scan rfid know you. That is like shouting out who, what you are all the time 24/7. That is just information pollution.

    This is NOTHING NEW.
Many of your credit cards already do this. Passports and enhanced licenses (as the post points out, if you bothered to read it) already do this.
Why get your panties in a bunch just because Apple may be considering doing the same?

Besides, your use of the term 'information pollution' is quite inaccurate and inappropriate.
Nothing is being polluted. When you walk by an area your information isn't still there an hour later.
Additionally, the VAST MAJORITY of RFID devices are PASSIVE, meaning they don't actively transmit ANY information but must be activated by a nearby reader to even be capable of being read.
Think of it like as if you were just walking down the street. You know your name, but you're not telling anyone. The only way anyone can get that info is if they ask you your name (granted in this scenario you MUST tell them if asked) but you're not just repeating it aloud ALL THE TIME.

Do you also consider it information pollution when every time ANYONE (including yourself) speak? O_o

All tin-foil hats and irrational fears of 'big brother' are unnecessary, and a waste of your valuable time. ;-)

I'm ashamed I work for them. I've always considered Target the "good guys" Wal-mart but the more I get a taste for their corporate side (retail as well as pharmacy) I'm less impressed day by day.

    I'm sorry.

I worked at that hellhole for 3 and a half years and it went towards the crapper with each passing day. I went on leave of absence for school, but didn't come back over the summer due to me having an internship elsewhere, and they sent me a letter telling me to either quit or come back, so I said goodbye.

Their business practices, while better than Wal-Mart, are nothing to be proud about either. Maybe if they spent more time improving the shopping experience and less time high pressuring customers, err, guests, for those god damn target visa cards, loss of DVD sales wouldn't be a problem
