Technology is evolving all the time. And if movies are not offered for sale via download, there will be just more people downloading movies from filesharing networks without any profit for the movie companies. Certainly a part of the legal dowload business would go to companies like Wall Mart or Target, but on the bottom line the profit will be smaller for the movie companies because of more illegal downloads.
The same thing happened with music before and it was seen that many of the people using illegal download networks were also satified with a reasonable legal download service. Many people just wanted the comfort of not having to drive to a store to pick up a CD.

It's always funny when the networks do crap like this. They have an app that's hugely popular and people like me who live in Comcast's dirty grips wish I had access to. An app that people might start watching networks LIVE (I haven't watched a show live in 10 years thanks to DVR\TIVO)... then they go pulling this crap.
So the people with the TW app went from downloading torrents and watching on Tivo which provided ZERO bang for the networks' ad dollars, to watching their ads on the mobile device, and that's not good enough? Rot in hell then, lol. Because like when the Writer's Union went on strike, shows DID replace them. Sure they're not as great, but if those shows are what non-union workers can come up with in two weeks, imagine what they could do in two months, or a year...
- FU@$ the unions and let's bring TV back the way it was intended.
- FU$@ the network companies who control the cable companies so they can't offer ala carte programming knowing that nobody is going to subscribe to G4 or OWN or Hallmark... and let me go ala carte. I'll take the locals plus 10 channels at $1 per channel per month, please.

I don't know what to tell you. Couple days after I installed 10.4.7 , major issues happened on my quad. I end up with my computer at Apple for repair and 3 weeks later they figure out a combination of 10.4.7 and my GT7800 card were the issue.
Now, I have a new GT card and I use 10.4.6. The kernel comes once a week. So the problem in some way still persist. I hope the new 10.4.8 will address this issue. If not I'll go back to Apple and request a new computer in exchange for the one I have.
I don't know, I love my quad but I have to say I was pretty upset with this whole fiasco. I wish Apple had a loaner program for professionals using powermac. That way we can still productive while the computer is being repaired. This is not what you originally said. You said "unless every normal person has a tech friend/relative to keep the tablet working/updated" which is something else altogether, about personal ability. Why else would they have to be a "tech friend". If it was only about having one "period" then any dumbo friend/relative with a computer would do.My argument wasn't changed, but it might have been misunderstood. If every normal person was using the tablet, it would only be their tech friends who had a true computer in addition to a tablet (my implication being that only techies maintain multiple personal computers). So all the normal tablet users would need tech friends for the occasional sync. Sure, any dumb friend with a reasonably modern computer would do, but the idea is that all these dumb friends have moved on to tablets as well. At some point, everyone has tablets, and only the techies have a second, "real" computer.
You can get apps without a computer. You can get music without a computer. You can get TV shows and movies without a computer. You can get mail without a computer. You don't actually need to sync anything. Anybody remember when WalMart advertised that the products they sold were "Made in the USA"? Sad time my friends, sad times.
Funny story on that.
The small town where I grew up had a Western Auto store. It was the place to buy all kind's of stuff, including bicycles. My family was friends with the family that owned the store, I heard this tale from the father.
After WalMart opened in our town, sales at the Western Auto slowed. The guy went down to WalMart to check out what they were doing. He found the same brand of bike he was selling, being retailed at 1-2% more than was paying for them. The next time the bike manufacturers rep came by, he asked him about this.
"Well", the sales rep said, "volume discount this, economies of scale that, efficiency the other".
"But my families store has been supporting your brand for 40 years, where's the loyalty?", or words to that effect.
"Well, times change", was the answer.
A year goes by, and the bike manufacturer rep is back at the WA, where he sees a good assortment his brands bike, including new models just released the previous month. He goes to the store owner and asks him "Where did you get these new bikes? You haven't place an order with us in 8 months"
"I bought them at WalMart".
"Why would you do that? You can get them cheaper by buying them direct"
"Not a lot cheaper I couldn't. And I figure either WalMart is selling them for no profit, or you are. So by buying them at WalMart, I'm *********g one of you sons of bitches, and that makes me happy!"
Moral of the story? The bike manufacturer moved their production facilities over seas. The Western Auto is now a Beef O'Brady's.
At one point "Made in the USA" was a sweat shop on Saipan. I remember reading of cases where Walmart pressured manufacturers to move their operation overseas. They would offer the manufacturer a price on their product they (the manufacturer) could not make a profit on. When told so, Walmart told them, "just make it in China". So much for loyalty, loyalty to profits that is.

Very good point, I associate it with Apple as well. I think it is a part of iTunes kind of like a cd in relation to a best buy.

As much as I would like to have .Mac and be able to sync my data, I still can't justify $99 for 1gb of web storage. Hopefully the Apple/Google alliance has some impact regarding the pricing of Apple's web services.

on the left side, is the only place that Xeon was listed. There are 5 processors listed there, however on the top where the tabs are, there are only 4, there is no xeon

In the end, I think we can all agree that Woodcrest Xeons, Conroes, and Meroms all share a common basic architecture (the core architecture) and that the Macpro was the first machine Apple shipped with the new architecture (with the iMac following).

It seems like alot of the folks posting on this thread haven't tried the new Macs with osX.2. I'll admit 3 weeks ago the arguements posted above may have been valid, and thats not to say that apple doesn't have to come out with faster stuff to keep up with pcs but right now the Mac is very fast and a good deal.
$1899 for a dual 867 with a dvd burner and the software is pretty close to a similar pc and the included software is a real deal.
The new Hardware is a real improvement too. 2 optical bays and 4 ide drive bays with included raid software, if you haven't installed anything in the new Macs, believe me this is the best!
I use my Macs fulltime in my audio/video studio and for me it doesn't get any better than this!
Yes Macs initially cost more but the new speed/productivity boost quickly makes up of the slight difference.
So buy an emac if you need a cheap computer, maybe not as fast as the cheap pc but more portable!
